Followed two years after the surprise hit original, the sequel offered two extra female characters to choose from as well as new vehicles and weapons. But knowing they were onto a good thing, SNK thankfully didn't try to fix its fab 2D blast. The expressions on the soldiers are a joy to behold adding to the charm of this title, as does the lavish attention to the smallest pixel. Whilst there is slowdown showing how far the aging architecture was pushed, it doesn't distract too much from gaining Metal Slug a place in the gaming hall of fame. And its financially far more feasible than the cart version.
